The earwigs are a small order of terrestrial, winged insects which are immediately recognizable by the strong forceps on the tip of the abdomen. Earwigs are for the most part nocturnal omnivores, and the forceps are used partly for hunting and partly for defense. The majority of the species live in the tropics.
