The family Hydroptilidae is represented in Norway by five genera and 22 species.

The species are small to very small with very narrow, pointed wings. The species occur in both lentic (standing) and lotic (moving) water, and a few also inhabit brackish water. The larvae build portable cases of translucent secretion only, or they incorporate minute sand grains or algal filaments.
