The family Rhyacophilidae is represented in Norway by three species in the genus Rhyacophila.

The species are medium sized with comparatively narrow forewings with pointed tips. The larvae live on stony surfaces in rivers and streams, where they feed on small invertebrates, mostly Simuliidae (black flies) larvae. They are free-living and do not construct either portable cases or fixed retreats except just prior to pupation.
