Bryocamptus weberi
There is only one record of Bryocamptus weberi from Norway. It was found in a boggy habitat close to the shore of Lake Sognsvatn, Oslo, Eastern Norway.
Key characteristics
Bryocamptus weberi is a small, short and thick harpacticoid. The exopod in the first four legs has three segments, while the endopod is 2-segmented. The endopod of the first four legs are shorter than the exopod. Its rostrum is narrow, straight and pointed. The operculum has a prolongation with 2 to 3 very large spines, widely separated. The caudal ramus is about as long as wide. The antennule consists of eight segments.
Female: Length 0.29–0.38 mm
Male: Length 0.30–0.35 mm
Ecology and distribution
Bryocamptus weberi has a Palearctic distribution. There is only one record of B. weberi from Norway. It was found in a boggy habitat close to the shore of Lake Sognsvatn in Oslo, Eastern Norway. According to the literature, it lives in a wide variety of habitats; small lakes, ponds, benthic zone of rivers and brooks, mosses (typical for Sphagnum), springs, bogs, caves, litter and terrestrial soil habitats.
