The species are small to medium sized, with narrow forewings colored diffusely greyish brown. Several of the species are parthenogenetic and can be difficult to separate from one another. The larvae inhabit gravelly seeps, brooks, and rivers, in addition to barren lakes. They construct slightly curved portable cases of mineral particles.
