Speocyclops demetiensis may habitually resemble harpactoides, and the only record from Skandinavia is from the northwest coast of Norway.

Species of this genus may habitually resemble harpactoides. The antenna in Speocyclops demetiensis is very short and consists of 11 joints. The last pair of legs (5. pair) is wholly confluent with the last thorax segment and the genital segment is broad. The furca is short.

Ecology and distribution

S. demetiensis is the only species of this genus living in surface water. Other species are found in caves or groundwater. This littoral species has only been found once in a pond on the northwest coast of Norway and is the only species of this genus living in surface water.
