The family Phryganeidae is represented in Norway by 14 species in seven genera.

The species are medium sized to very large with broad wings, often with conspicuous markings. Most species inhabit ponds, lakes and backwaters of rivers. The larvae are primarily predators. They live among the vegetation and build straight or curved, portable cases using pieces of plant material.
