The suborder Ensifera includes 12 Norwegian species belonging to the three species groups bush crickets, cave crickets, and crickets and mole crickets.

Ensifera is an ecologically diverse group, including both tree-living, ground-dwelling, subterraneous and cave-dwelling species. Members can be distinguished from the members of Caelifera, the other large suborder of the Orthoptera, by the antennae having more than 30 segments and usually being longer than the body.
